Pou Tangata ILG Online Session

Please save the date for an upcoming online session where Pou Tangata ILGs will provide updates to Iwi Chairs on current and upcoming mahi.

This session will provide a dedicated opportunity for Pou Tangata to share progress, priorities, and next steps across the ILGs.

NICF Wānanga – Structure, Sustainability and Future Direction

Date: Wednesday, 22 April 2026 
Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm
Location: Commodore Airport Hotel

Following discussions at the Waitangi Forum, concerns were raised regarding the sustainability and practicality of the current NICF structure, particularly with a growing membership base and the increasing demands of Waitangi week. While this matter is scheduled for further discussion at the July 2026 hui, a dedicated wānanga has been proposed to allow for more focused engagement.

This session will provide NICF member Chairs with the opportunity to contribute whakaaro, explore key issues, and help shape recommendations to support the future direction of the forum. Outcomes from the wānanga will be consolidated into a paper and shared with members as part of the July 2026 Forum pack.

Climate and Resource Management Policy Regional Hui

Pou Take Āhuarangi of the Iwi Chairs Forum is delivering a series of workshops to support our whānau in better understanding:

  • Climate Change policy
  • Emissions Trading
  • Scheme (ETS)
  • Nature-based markets
  • Resource Management system changes

This hui is an opportunity to come together, share knowledge, and explore what these changes mean for our iwi, our communities, and our takiwā.

Pou Tangata Day – May 2026

Pou Tangata invites Iwi Chairs to attend the upcoming Pou Tangata Day. This hui provides an opportunity for organisations who have requested to present within the Pou Tangata agenda to share their kaupapa and key priorities with the National Iwi Chairs Forum (NICF).

The session will bring together a range of groups to engage directly with iwi leadership, supporting kōrero, collaboration, and shared understanding across kaupapa of national importance.

Presenting groups include:

  • Mana Mokopuna | Children’s Commissioner
  • Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust Board
  • Te Kāhui Tika Tangata | New Zealand Human Rights Commission
  • Workforce Futures Fund

Please note that the list of presenting groups is subject to change. A detailed agenda, including timings, will be circulated closer to the date.

Chairs-Only Dinner

28 July 2026

On the evening of Tuesday, 28 July 2026, Ngāi Tahu Chair Justin Tipa intends to host a Chairs-only dinner for iwi Chairs attending the National Iwi Chairs Forum.

This dinner is intended to provide an informal setting for iwi Chairs to connect, whakawhanaungatanga, and engage in kōrero ahead of the formal NICF programme. Further details, including the time and venue, will be confirmed closer to the event.

Iwi are encouraged to take this engagement into account when planning their Chair’s travel and schedule for the week.
